Carlo + Annie Wedding

I made this simple Movie Maker AVP for Annie's Wedding. The videos used here are from the ones I took at their engagement shoot. The wedding itself was one of the most intimate I have ever attended. Congratulations and best wishes Annie & Carlo!

To Lake Sebu, South Cotabato

This happened last October, my first time to go beyond Digos on the southern part of Mindanao. This was supposed to be a trip of my sister's co-workers. She brought me along. We left at 2:30 AM. When the skies started to lighten, we were on a road towards General Santos City. I could already see unfamiliar mountains at my right. Especially noticeable was a cone-shaped peak covered with clouds or fog. After GenSan was Polomolok, where DOLE's vast flat area of plantations is located.

Then there it was, the cone-shaped, fog-covered lone mountain. It's called Mt. Matutum, the most prominent landmark of Polomolok.

Next to Polomolok, I would not forget Koronadal's entrance point. Right after the "Welcome to City of Koronadal" sign, there's this very steep and dense little hill. Then we were greeted by grass-covered slowly rising hills with thinly scattered trees. I would have loved an early morning walk there. We had a quick stop at Koronadal (also called Marbel) to eat breakfast. It was just 7 AM yet the sun was already harsh there. After eating, we had more of less another hour of travel before finally reaching the seven falls. See photos below.

couldn't get enough

Then we headed to what we originally came there for: the zipline. First time, too.

See that line? That's 600 feet above the ground and 700 meters going to the opposite hill. Below that you will see some of the seven falls.

We didn't bring any camera when we had our turn (with little sister). We got scared of dropping it. And most probably, we were the only ones who didn't shout or make any noise, because it's more fun to be quiet hehe. Our only consolation? We had a great view of everything. We saw the rainbows below us!

After the main zipline, there was another one to get to the bottom. Then we climbed back up using the 700-step stairs. Not advised for the faint of heart, literally. Then we headed to Lake Sebu for lunch. (Photos below)

Coursera

Julienne's Facebook network
my Facebook network (Oct 2012)

So I have just completed two courses at Coursera. For those not yet familiar, Coursera, along with Udacity and Harvard's edX, is a free online education service founded by two computer science professors from Stanford.

I initially enrolled in four courses, but couldn't cope with the lectures because of time constraints. So eventually, I reduced my focus to two subjects of the same topic: networks. The first one started earlier and was more theoretical, which for me was good because when the second network course started, its instructor immediately used a lot of terms that wouldn't have been understood by a first time student.  The second course also tended toward analysis and applications: a happy coincidence. My FB network above was from our first assignment.

Now that I have to finish my thesis, I really hope I could use network analysis. The problem again would be where to find data or what the topic would be. Suggestions would be highly appreciated! :)

...so little time so much to do...

I'm far behind in my blog updates. In the meantime here are a few posts from folkerie:

* When Gram Parsons sang folk
* The two-stringed lutes, an article by Fr. Joemar Sibug, OP on the Philippine musical instrument kudyapi. Then watch how it is played by kudyapi master Samaon Sulaiman.
