Meet the newest members of the family

Our cat was unsuccessful with her first two litters. All died just a day after giving birth. This time though, she gave birth someplace else and brought home her kittens just last month. We think it's because they're old enough to eat solid food.

I'm proud to say that she's taking great care of them, not letting them out of her sight. The kittens used to only stay at the back of the house. But now that they're more active, they've expanded their playground and reached the front of the house and out in the street. This makes the mother a little apprehensive that she follows and carries them back inside.

She also developed a mother's courage when before most cats in the neighborhood frightened her. She even fights off this little neighbor's dog that keeps going inside our yard. :)

Crochet Slippers, finally!

crochet slippers - nephithyrion

Thanks to this pattern I didn't have to think long about how to make the slippers. My problem was actually not having enough yarn colors left, so this gave me the idea to finally use the one-roll variegated yarn in my stash.

The finished product is a little loose, wider than I intended and it's a bit stretchy so I made it shorter than my feet. I might have to use a smaller hook or decrease the number of stitches next time. But to make up for this error, I added additional decreasing rows at the top so that it would hold.

Lea + Jerry Wedding

This wedding took place last July 19. Lea is my mother's seat-mate in the office and she requested that I also come (and with my sister, too) and take photos. But honestly, being a guest makes me a lazy "photographer". I don't want to get in the way of the official photographer/s so I only grab the camera during the march and reception entrances, then spend more time with the kids behind the scenes, which is something the official cameras ignore. And I don't understand that because that's the reason there are second and third photographers, right?

This is Sta. Ana Parish in Davao City. This is my first time here since its renovation
and I've heard it offers the longest walk in Davao weddings.

Crochet hats...again

Every time I finish one hat, I get another order. And because I do this VERY part-time, I still haven't had time to make other things, like the one thing I've been craving for: shoes/socks that I can wear going to the office, home.

Here are two finished projects. The brown summer hat is a gift for my best friend, who's getting married this October, on her 30th birthday. The pink baby beanie is a custom order of a friend's friend.

Websites: Strickland Vintage Watches & Tim Hardaway Foundation

Strickland Vintage Watches was a big project and I'm proud I had a part in making this site, but don't get the wrong idea because I only helped with the theme, testing and debugging. :)

Tim Hardaway Foundation also had a rebranding, which included a redesign of their site. I am now studying how to make responsive (i.e. mobile) designs and WordPress themes, so that's what I did with Tim's site. It took a longer time to make, but hopefully I could learn and be more at ease with it soon.

#SHIFTDavao

#SHIFTDavao

Technically, my "technical" work only involved live tweeting. Other times, I was a runner. This was volunteer work which I apparently signed up for after I joined the Davao Catholic Herald family.

Because I was checking live tweets all throughout the event, half the time I could not listen to the speakers. I was even unaware that the woman asking me from behind was already Maria Ressa, Rappler CEO. When she had her face next to mine looking at the computer screens in front of me, that's the only time I knew.

But from what information I gathered, these are the ones that stood out:

Maria Ressa:
A leader must
  1. Set direction
  2. Identify values
  3. Set the bar for ethics
80% of how we make decisions is based on how we feel.

Sec. Lucille Sering:
The Philippine mean temperature for the past 60 years increased by 0.64 degrees Celsius. An increase of 1 degree is critical. An increase of 2 degrees is irreversible.

Atty. Yves Gonzales:
Do good things and people will follow you in every sense of the word.

Eleanor Roosevelt:
Do one thing a day that scares you.

  1. Pick a fitting username and photo
  2. Start strong
  3. Engage in conversation
  4. Content is KING
  5. Write your idols
  6. Use relatable #hashtags
  7. Use catchy images
  8. Go multi-platform
  9. Grow your network
  10. Follow with ACTION
P.S. It's worth noting that this event was conceptualized just last May, with only two months of preparation. The participation of volunteers and sponsors made this a success.
